Romania

Following the 1989 revolution, the Catholic Church, which had been repressed for over 40 years, began to reassert itself.  The first Conference of the Society of St Vincent de Paul (SVP) was formed in Lugoj in 1990.

In 2002 Romania was incorporated into the Twinnage scheme, linked with and supported by the SVP in England & Wales.

As of 2005, there were 35 SVP Conferences in Romania, 20 of which were twinned with Conferences in England & Wales (some are twinned with two E&W Conferences).
