SUDAN APPEAL 2007
BACKGROUND
Nearly half a million Sudanese people have been killed by civil war and its consequences in recent years. Over 4 million people have been forced from their homes into to Internally Displaced Person Camps (IDPs). Despite the ostensible peace agreement signed on 9th January 2005, internal conflict and political instability continue to dominate life in Sudan. Large-scale repatriation is unlikely to occur for several years, during which time those displaced by the war are forced to remain in the IDPs. Conditions in the camps are poor: there is little sanitation or access to clean water, often no electricity, poor road access, and few - if any - medical supplies.
£35 = LIFE
£35 would pay for enough food to give a young child a nutritious meal each day for a year through the SVP’s Baby Feeding Programme in Sudan.
The SVP’s 18 baby feeding centres are located in the Internally Displaced Person Camps around Khartoum. They provide a nourishing meal for some of the Sudanese children and babies who have fled the war and famine in Darfur and the south of the country.
The centres are more than feeding centres: they make the difference between living for another day and a parent having to bury their child.
DON’T GIVE GIFTS > GIVE LIFE
Rather than giving your loved ones gifts this year, why don’t you give the gift of life on their behalf? Donate a suggested minimum of £35 to the SVP Twinnage Sudan Appeal on behalf of a loved one and receive a gift certificate to give them in lieu of a gift. The donation will ensure that the SVP is able to continue operating its Baby Feeding Programme.
To donate, please complete the form, downloadable by clicking here , and return it with your donation to the SVP National Office address on the form.
