Disaster Fund

When Disasters, natural or man-made, occur, money is sent to the National Council of the affected country. This enables members to alleviate immediate suffering and allows the families they help to make a fresh start. This money comes from a special ‘Disaster Fund’.

How can you support this work?

Simply by sending a donation to the Central Council Twinnage Representative or our National Office. Although there are sometimes obvious ‘Disasters’ to support, it is helpful if money can be sent just for the ‘Disaster Fund’. The reason is simply that usually money is sent as soon as information on the Disaster becomes available. So donations effectively ‘top-up’ the Fund, ready for the next Disaster.

The following photograph captures an example of the support provided by the SVP in India following the Dec 2004 Tsunami. A combination of local active members of the SVP combined with local and internationally provided funds enabled rapid aid to relieve locally identified problems.  Here, the SVP are assisting in providing the boats and nets to enable the local fishermen to return to work, providing income and food for the local community.
